For those of you who have the Central Vacuum System, can you tell me whether or not you find it beneficial to use on hardwood flooring? We were told that we need additional inlets because we change the configuration of the Rome floor plan. The system comes with at least 7 inlets and beyond that you must purchase them, if necessary. We are not interested in paying any additional money for inlets that we may never use for the hardwood flooring which will be installed on the entire main level. Please share your feedback/experience. Thank you!
It really depends on the vacuum itself. We had one that could be used on hardwood and I LOVED it! Especially important if you are going to have large rugs on the main level, it makes transitioning so much easier if vacuum can be used on bare floors. Do you have just one crumb catcher? If so, its probably in kitchen so all your other floors on main level will need dust pan. Strategically placed inlets will be important. I'm so jealous! We did not get central vac in this house.
ReplyDeleteYes, the crumb catcher is in the kitchen. The Guardian Rep did a great job with installing the inlets in strategic places so no area was unleft without access for cleaning. Thank you for the feedback.
DeleteI haven't had a central vac, but a friend of ours did. She had hardwood floors throughout her main level, no crumb catcher, and she used the central vac all the time. (She had 5 dogs.)
ReplyDeleteI specifically asked the Guardian rep whether the vacuum could be used on wood floors and he said you could. My guess is there is a way to turn off the beater brushes or you would use another attachment that comes with the system.
P.S. I too am jealous of your central vac :)
This is great feedback. Thank you, I will be sure to check with the rep about the attachments.
DeleteDidnt get one, sorry no help here!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get one either, but I want your crumb catcher!
ReplyDeleteLOL! DH and I went back to the table and discussed this heart to heart! He is a great guy!
DeleteYou have all the cool gadgets and doohickeys! I'm with everyone else... jealous!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cherie! I am excited to have it! My DH is a great guy to honor my wish!
DeleteWe're getting one...my aunt has had one for forever and her entire house is hardwood, so I'm guessing it's not an issue.
ReplyDeleteWhat IS an issue, is the fact that you're getting 7 ports and we're only getting 5! They told us 7 based on the square footage we told them at the meeting, but the official paperwork from RH apparently states a lower sq. footage so we only get 5. I really hope I don't regret not making a big stink about it. Especially since they installed them without consulting me on where I wanted them!
Amanda, we were getting five ports which we signed for at our initial meeting. When the Guardian Rep noticed the change in the floor plan he adjusted it to accommodate our customizations. He was going by the original floor plan. We had to have access to both master bedroom closets.
DeleteI have one and I use it like it's God's gift to me. Yes, you can turn off the beater bar. It's not even a separate attachment. You don't have to mess with anything at all - The power switch is off in the middle. You push one side 0 beater bars. You push the other side - only vacuum. It's FANTASTIC! And Ooohhhhhhh yes I use it on the hardwoods! It's way better than pushing dirt around with the broom! I thought I would just sweep it all over to the crumb catcher, but I don't. That thing is rarely used. Although, I kind of wish I would have installed one in the upstairs hall sometimes. Oh well, not enough to actually care.
ReplyDeleteThe fastest and best way to do the hardwoods is with that central vac - followed by cleaning with the Bruce hardwood floor cleaner. Anything else I've tried was mediocre. This combo leaves my floors like brand new every time. Plus, the effort is minimal.
OMG, Tammigirl!!!! This is awesome!! I was praying someone would shed some light on this system. I thought the hose was hidden inside the wall but it's not! It's with another system I watched on youtube. Nevertheless, I love your response--it makes me feel so much better!! Thank you for sharing your experience and excitement!! I can't wait to use it.
DeleteBTW--Do you have hardwood floors throughout your entire home! We wanted to have hardwood floors upstairs but they said the Rome could not accommodate the steps because it's structure????????
It sure is beneficial! Before, I have to sweep the floor a dozen times to get the dust off. But when I installed a central vac, I just do a once or twice sweeping a day. It is definitely a good addition to our home.
