Three Pictures....Plus One More

Our Home Still Under Construction
Still waiting for the door to be painted black, the missing black shutters to be installed, the columns on the front porch to be painted dover white and the planting of the shrubbery and trees for our lot.
The trees you see in this picture are from my next door neighbor's lawn (Lot #27).

This is a picture of our kitchen from last week still under construction before the infamous backsplash GONE WRONG!! Please continue to share any ideas/suggestions/thoughts of what I can do to remove the backsplash GONE WRONG!!  You can see pictures on DWtimes 2 blog that she posted yesterday at:  http://dwtimes2.blogspot.com/2012/12/fellow-blogger-nadases-kitchen-blooper.html

This is a picture of the backsplash gone WRONG!!  This is absolute terror!!  It is a total eyesore!  My preference is too still have my tumbled stone backsplash.  I was told that to remove the backsplash would cause damage to the drywall and unfortunately, since this is my mistake, Ryan Homes will not even entertain the thought of allowing the tile company to change it before closing. I even called Lowe's and they won't do it because they do not remove backsplash (only install). I wish I knew how to do it myself because I would go pick up the supplies and start chipping away and install the color below:

This is the color I should have chosen--it's neutral and would go perfectly!  Yet I took a risk and made my first blunder as a new interior designer on the block!  The only thing I can say now is that RISK creates GROWTH!  Plus this is another opportunity to use my creative energy to resolve what appears to be a total nightmare!
***I deleted some pictures from my blog and was able to upload these pictures.  I still have the task before me to create more storage space.  My last paper will be written today and will allow me to create some time to devote to this blog***

  1. I LOVE your exterior colors and elevation! I'm also really glad to see the pics of St. Cecilia and Butterscotch Glaze cabinets because that is what we are getting too and it looks great in your kitchen.

I am so sorry about the backsplash fiasco. I've seen a lot of HGTV shows where they replace old backsplashes with new. Yes, you'll need to replace the drywall in those areas, but it's not a big deal because you don't have to worry about making the drywall look pretty since it's going to be covered by tile again. We had to do a little bit of that around a fireplace that we tiled. Someone who knows what they're doing will make quick work of it. Don't stress too much...it can be fixed! Unfortunately, I'm sure Ryan will not contribute to that expense, but you have time to fix it. Again, so sorry that you have to deal with that.

    1. Thank you Ravenna120 for the compliments on the exterior colors. Most people who choose our Elevation C go with the stone because it's the new trend and yet, we wanted to create a different look with our Elevation C. You are going to love the St. Cecilia and Butterscotch Glaze combo. They only thing is you just don't know what shade of slab you will end up with. I can't wait to talk to our tile company tomorrow because dream kitchen gone wrong terrifies me. Ugghh #praying

  2. The house looks great! I was curious about the two different colors for the kitchen cabinets, but they look good together.

    1. Thank you M! The two tone kitchen, if I must admit myself, looks beautiful together. The Rushmore Maple Square Espresso gourmet island matches the espresso floors perfectly and the Rushmore Maple Square Butterscotch cabinets are a beautiful contrast. I love it! It wasn't the greatest picture but I intend to upload the picture where you can really see the beauty of combination.

    1. Thank you Courtney! I look forward to seeing ALL of our stainless steel appliances installed. They currently have the wrong dishwasher installed which is black. We are waiting for our stainless steel dishwasher to be delivered. We currently have the standard black refrigerator installed because we opted out of the RH fridge. We purchased a Samsung with Apps that is stainless and will be installed the day of settlement.

    2. Wow, the wrong dishwasher. C'mon RH, get it together! I should have gotten the standard black fridge, but I opted for no fridge and figured I'd just purchase it on my own. Four weeks till closing and I haven't shopped for or thought about a fridge. Guess I better get on the ball...gotta get that in addition to a storm door, garage door opener (who wants to pay RH an extra $300 for an opener - not me) and blinds. I also haven't even begun packing or arranged for movers.

    3. Courtney, right ON! We did not get the garage opener too. I want to get the new techny one that allows you to use an app from your smrtphone in case you leave the garage door open and it also has a monitor you keep in your bedroom that lets you know if the door is open. I remember in our last townhouse I was infamous for leaving our garage door open. It's by LiftMaster and it costs $200 less than what RH charges.

      btw--START PACKING! It's a lot of work.

  4. I LOVE the brick and front porch. the house looks amazing. as for the backsplash, I don't know of another way other than replacing the drywall. people replace backsplash all the time. there must be some product you trowel on over the drywall. you will defiantly pull the paper face off the drywall removing the tile. it's too bad. But look at it this way, we learn from our mistakes and are stronger because of it. Just think of all the tile knowledge you will have at the end of this.

    1. Roger and Donna, I have some more beautiful pictures to show you. I looovveeee my kitchen too. I will be so elated once the backsplash issue is resolved. It still aches but I know it will turn out the way they I want it to after we go to closing.

  6. Nadase I really wouldn't worry about your tile issue. While I agree that removing it will damage the drywall, if you are careful it won't really matter because you will be using a thick coat of grout anyway to reinstall what you want! Installing a backsplash is one of the first things I plan to do when we close in February because its one of the easier projects I have planned. You can TOTALLY do it!!

    1. Thank you Cami! I have calmed down tremendously. I am waiting for pricing to come back from the tile company and I am going to determine whether or not I will keep it and/or incorporate a different theme my original idea. With everyone's feedback, I feel confident that there is an expert who can carefully remove and install the new backsplash with out damaging the walls which could add to the cost of the replacement.

  7. Because I'm a guy, the backsplash doesn't look that bad to me. But, like most things in a home, it's fixable. I guess a lighter color would bring out the colors in your granite.

    1. Thanks Sheldon! My husband's face looked like mine's. We were in sheer terror when we saw the final product. I am feeling much better about it now because the designer in me could not rest my mind--not to mention I grieved too. The lighter color was definitely the better choice because it is neutral but the designer in me took the risk as most designers do which is part of the process of decorating.

  8. I think if you had the espresso cabinets all around the story might be a little different. The really great news is that you can select any kind of tile you want, even possibly go crazy with copper / tin on the back if that's something you'd like. The options are wide open now that you're not restricted to an option list.

  9. we selected 4 inch granite back splash plus rest are ceramics.
Those selection based on your photos in which santa ceilia granite countop with 4 inch granite and stone back splash.
later you can do that also or just paint your back splash.
another option is talk to your PM & get contact no of installer's who installed back splash in your home, I m sure he can take out & install as per your selection.
Your elevation looks great, enjoy your new home feelingss & just wait for magical key.

  10. Nadase, I am so in love with the cabinet colors together...great choice! I am just going to throw my two cents in on your backsplash....I look at the entire room and envision a darker stone, one that will pull the expresso color over to the walls. I worry that the lighter stone will blend too much with the cabinets. Unless...you choose ORB hardware for the butterscotch cabinets.. that would work too....OK, that's just my thought. I have no doubt you have a vision and it will all pull together nicely. Good luck!

  11. Yay, kitchen pictures! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your kitchen!!! I cannot judge the back splash until you post a picture of the entire kitchen with the back splash installed. What type of hardware do you plan on installing?

  12. Your house is beautiful! And I'm sorry you don't like the backsplash! I personally don't think it looks bad at all! I guess it looks different in person, and it's YOUR kitchen... I hope you find a solution, which I know you will!!! Everything looks amazing!!!
